UK Investment Research Review opens the way for potential removal of UK unbundling rules by H1 2024

UK Chancellor Jeremy Hunt confirmed in his Mansion House speech that the government has accepted all the recommendations made in the Investment Research Review, which was published on 10 July 2023. Crucially, the review includes a recommendation to give firms greater flexibility in how they pay for investment research, suggesting that the unbundling rules should be removed or, at least, relaxed so as to allow firms to access research from jurisdictions (such as the US) in which bundling of research fees is market standard.
