74 of those countries will apply the Convention only to recognition and enforcement of awards made in the territory of another contracting state. 48 will apply the Convention only to differences arising out of legal relationships (whether contractual or not) which are considered as commercial under the national law.

Note: Where enforcement of a foreign arbitration award in India is likely to be required, it is important to be aware that, although India is a signatory to the New York Convention, the Indian courts will only enforce an arbitration award under the New York Convention if the jurisdiction that the award has come from is a contracting state that has also been notified in India's Official Gazette. In such circumstances it will therefore be important to check that the seat of arbitration has been so notified. See here (under Appeals, setting aside and enforcement of domestic & foreign awards) for more.
